2011 State Health Director's Conference

Healthy North Carolina 2020: A Better State of Health

January 27 & 28, 2011

The N.C. State Health Director’s conference is held each January to provide information and education for local health directors, board of health members, county officials and health department staff about public health issues of strategic interest. Approximately 250 people attended the two-day conference at Raleigh’s Crabtree Valley Marriott Hotel and Conference Center on January 27-28. Governor Bev Perdue spoke at the conference on Friday, applauding local health directors for the work being done at the local level to improve health.

State Health Director Dr. Jeff Engel unveiled the Healthy North Carolina 2020 Objectives, which will drive state and local-level activities to improve population health. Focus areas for Healthy NC 2020 include tobacco use, nutrition and physical activity, risky sexual behavior, substance abuse, environmental risks, injury, infectious disease/foodborne illness, mental health, dental health, maternal and infant health, social determinants of health, and chronic disease.
